Oolite 1.92

Oolite is a space sim game, inspired by Elite, powered by Objective-C and OpenGL, and designed as a small game that is easy for users to pick up, modify and expand upon. Almost every aspect of the game can be changed by using simple, free graphics packages and text editors.

If I started tomorrow, without any previous knowledge of Oolite, which add on packages should I get? With a narrative maybe? (Win11, 32 GB, AMD 5800x3D, RTX 4070)

Depends very much what you want to get up to.

A list of possibilities is found here: Career Options

0) Note: The game is modelled on the original Elite (from 1984) - but the 1,000+ addons (OXPs) allow phenomenal customisation to create all sorts of more modern compexities. The vanilla game is however much more sophisticated than the original precursor, despite looking very similar.

1) The in-game Tutorial should help you get to grips with the vanilla game. There are some tips on strategy/tactics with the "Hints" oxp. And Market Observer is essential if you are trying to make money by trading. Oh! And there is also Contextual Help - which only works on the current version of Oolite.

2) There are innumerable lists of OXPs which people like. Mine is here. Arquebus's is buried somewhere in one of his myriad YouTube film comments. The others, sadly, tend to be a decade or so older. But you could try asking some of those recently posting on the Oolite Bulletin Boards.

3) There are a couple of guides on our wiki: see Guide to Accuracy OXPs, Guide to Ambience OXPs & Guide to Economics OXPs
