According two a couple of articles on the internet RPS being one of them, Lucasarts are hiring people to work on some new games. What’s got them all excited is the very last bullet point in the requirements for the job

It's about time LucasArts gets back into this area... never really knew why they left in the first place? I always thought that X-Wing and Tie fighter games did well.

The possibilities (and expectations) are massive here. Imagine a space trading game, with smuggling, piracy, the war between the Imperials and the Rebels going on, with a game set in a massive universe, where you can fly, from space, right onto those star ports full of scum and villany. Lucas Arts have in the past came so close to building a game like that. There has been a persistent rumor for years that LucasArt was going to be doing some thing, if it is a space combat game then it will probably be set with in the StarWars universe. Maybe set in the clone wars era.Now that two rumor of triple A developers, may taking an interest in this genre. I would wet my Pantaloons to have a space trading game set with in the StarWars universe.

There was a rumor circulating many years back, that Totally Games, creators of the X-Wing series, were creating an Elite/Privateer Space Trading/Combat Sim called "Falcon". So they were investigating the idea at least. But I think that they are targetting for a new Rogue Squadron style of game. (Unless they forego the traditional retail channels and go for the digital way).

Could very well be a new Rogue Squadron game on the consoles, inless they are thinking about some sort of online mmo combat game.

New StarWars game rumor continues with a report of three domain names being registered http://www.computerandvideogames.com/325668/lucasarts-registers-star-wars-identities-domains/Don’t think it sounds much like a name that would be used for a space sim game more likely to be some thing to do with the StarWars MMO.

Maybe they are domain names for something to do with SWTOR? Kinda like a facebook for SW players.

That mount & blade seems to have a few space sim mob for it, IIRC theirs a Battlestar one as well.Had a look at the youtube vids but they only show a StarWars Battle front type of gameplay I take it from the vids that there is a story mode as well.

starting a new game lets you create your character with a backstory then you play your own story in that galaxy far away - that means its quite a freeroaming sandbox game - though you can get quests from the towns/centers or from the lords/commanders - maybe you get an offer from the emperor himself (you better not refuse ;)yes it is quite combat orientied - and after that you loot the battlefield , upgrade your troops if they survivedand maybe one day you will lead a company of sith knights slicing through that rebel scum with ease

I'm not getting my hopes high. Nowadays, mainstream games aren't designed to be good, they're designed to be dumbed down in order to sell to masses of casuals. Expecting something shallow in terms of depth, with too arcady flight model and little to no innovation (the mainstream industry hates things that aren't transparent and proven to sell).

Hope I'm wrong but the title sounds a bit "tactical ground swat combat" to me...

I think I have to go with DiabloTigerSix on this one. Granted the graphics and what they could do with a great engine would put the previous games to shame, but thats only if they took the time to make it right. Time is money so it won't be made right.

Might have something to do with the new Starwars game 1313.

Disney in Scottish means,.."does not". I wont hold my breath for Disney to bring back the glory days of Lucas Arts Space Sims.
