My preference is definitely the full freedom of three dimensional movement, but I don't think it's a good idea to force that on the player where it's not appropriate. Space games on a plane can be good too. Drifter is a recent release that does this pretty well.

Just played a couple of mission on my nexus 4, and I'm astounded by the level of polish you've managed. This is really impressive stuff. Normally I really dislike space games that are locked to a 2D plane but this is really impressive stuff.

As a random aside I played a couple of rounds of Quake 3 on a raspi and it was very good after adjusting the graphics settings. Certainly enough horsepower for games of that era - assuming they're ARM compatible

Fun times. The ship battles are surprisingly fun, wish the radar had a bit more contrast on it though so I could see it while the ship is getting knocked around all over the place by enemy fire and my bad piloting
