RE: I wanna be the dev
<t>and start small. limit the scope of the first project to the most narrow and focused design possible and see how fun/interesting you can make it. and dont even try to make the code design extensible for the future... it's a huge waste of time for a 1.0 project since a year later you'll just want ...

RE: Why BSG doesn't work
<t>Well IMHO, Carriers in space do not make any sense. (Although I also enjoyed BSG). I think you're right that Carriers as fighter craft launchers is silly for space, but as giant transports of planet-side vehicles and troops for invasions/assaults/colonization it can make a lot of sense. Of course ...

RE: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
I would prefer it if they just got rid of the actors and made them fully CGI. At least this way the types of shots they are creating aren't limited as the cgi actors are able to fully interact with the entire virtual realm. Na'vi, Gollum, why not go all the way?

<t>http://www.theonering.com/news/the-hobbit-movies/behind-the-scenes-of-the-hobbit-s-special-effects just about every shot in the trailer at the start of this thread is using green screen. So i dont know what it means to be shot on location in new zealand if it's mostly inside a studio ...

RE: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
<t>All i see is GREEN SCREEN when i watch this trailer. These are just lazy shots. All the actors huddled close together standing in front of a backdrop. Shot after shot after shot of green screen backdrops. And it's why i bet all the action shots of them running need quick cuts because they run out ...

This one looks pretty hopeless to be honest. And I did try the demo. It looks like something somebody whipped up in half day while learning Unity3d.

RE: SSC need help with Kickstarter pitch
you need videos to prove that you've got a legitimate chance at reaching your target. if you don't have an alpha already and your time frame is 12 months it's just not going to happen with one programmer. people know this.

RE: Save Homeworld
<t>Am I correct in that these guys (teamPixel) do NOT currently own any license to create any new Homeworld game or to update and release any existing Homeworld game? If that is true, giving them money seems like a bad idea. You too then can start a campaign to release a Robotech game and hope to ...

On the kickstarter side, both will have received ~2 million dollars US. But yes, Star Citizen raised alot of money on their own as well.

<t>Looks like he is. "Recently, DW Harper was tapped to write a new draft of The Forever War for Ridley Scott, Fox 2000 and Scott Free. This is the fifth draft of the screenplay, with the original screenplay authored by Blade Runner scribe David Peoples." But I have very little faith in Hollywood ...

<t>Good luck on this project. Looks interesting. One of the areas where developers seem to get themselves derailed when working on projects like this, is they try too much to make their procedural game worlds conform to the conventions of non procedural games.I think you will be much more successful ...

I think people need to spend time cultivating a fan base before they launch a kickstarter. If you come out of nowhere and start asking for money, you're going to have problems.

RE: The Ultimate Space game
<t>Seemless transitions from space to planet surface I feel is one of the biggest traps that a lot of independant space sim developers fall into.Users claim to want it but that's only because the standard model of scifi fighter simulations really don't have a lot of gameplay. It's mostly a ton of ...

RE: How do you simulate an economy?
<t>Also, what is your goal with the economy? A lot of games seem to try fancy realtime supply/demand economies but to what end? If it's just for passable valuations of products based on relative equilibrium between a lot of factors, then supply/demand isn't necessary at all. You can just fake the ...

RE: How do you simulate an economy?
<t>I think the way to do this is to build many many small experimental applications where you test various concepts. Store them all in your EconExperimentsExp## folders and go from there.I think the wrong way to go is to try and design and build a monolithic model from start to finish in a single ...
