RE: Alpha5 (really does fix lots of crashing this time... ;)
<r>Lots of crashing has indeed been fixed..Cheers <E>8-)</E> As always ive got a billion suggestions so ill offer none, it seems work is progressing well on this and its becoming more playable with each release. Do you need any text based contributions - mainly system descriptions? If so id be happy ...

RE: A suggestion and some questions..
Thx for the info. As for land battles i wasnt thinking anything more epic than a few static objects like turrets tbh, and ive had no crashes on alpha 5 so thats sorted:)

A suggestion and some questions..
<r>Ive recently seen the new build, but its giving me a lot of crashes lately. Im not sure if this is related to smuggling handweapons, it seems to be on docking with a station though. Anyway, I thought of a neat little idea, how about adding the price you paid for an item in the cargo roster, as an ...

RE: Progress in March
<t>Thx for the info, though some people might like the hight FOV. Its just for cinematic screenshots and stuff. The sound i was using came from the orbiter sound 3.5 mod - i will request the mod creators permission to reuse them, and i assume they are GPL (unless he had to get specific permission ...

RE: Progress in March
<t>As for the hyperspace it never even occured to me to try as it still said my destination was selected in the system info. Oops! As for FOV i mean the field of view, which is different - like using a telescope has a very low field of view..its like zoom but it will stop the fishbowl lens effect if ...

RE: Progress in March
<t>My initial reaction is one of astonisment at the accuracy of the autopilot and its use of the main engine to deccelerate. Excellent work! Everything seems a lot more polished than in the previous build. I also appreciate the addition of the target velocity data, that makes combat a lot easier ...

RE: Pioneer: new GPL Frontier Elite 2 style game
<t>Orbit could be achieved in about 3-4 steps with engines as powerful as the ones available in the elite universe. You can reach orbital speeds in a matter of seconds, and fuel efficiency is totally irrelevant on those scales. If an orbit autopilot were included, it would be helpful to have a ...

RE: Pioneer: new GPL Frontier Elite 2 style game
<t>Cloud layers should be fairly simple, its a semi transparent sphere around the object. I imagine 3d clouds would cause lots of problems with many peoples machines. One thing ive noticed on similar engines is that adding another cloud sphere can spoil some of the horizon and star effects. One of ...

RE: Pioneer: new GPL Frontier Elite 2 style game
<t>Mining ancient ruins for alien artifacts on distant worlds hundereds of light years away, that would certainly be in the spirit of Frontier. I remember back in 1993/4 when i first booted up my amiga and ran the game. It was like someone had taken everything i ever wanted in a game and put it ...

RE: Pioneer: new GPL Frontier Elite 2 style game
<r><E></E> cant believe i missed them! They are fairly powerful, and should be good for manipulating orbits. Are there any plans to put more info on the HUD, such as orientation, ETA, etc? Would it be possible to put a targets velocity vector icon on the screen? This would help in cancelling ...

RE: Pioneer: new GPL Frontier Elite 2 style game
I mean controls to move the ship in the xyz axis, not around its own axis. Its handy when travelling at slow velocity relative to another object, and especially useful for docking. Basically using the rotational thrusters to move the ship left/right and up/down.

RE: Pioneer: new GPL Frontier Elite 2 style game
<t>The terrain looks very similar to an orbiter addon called Orulex. I imiagine there are tonnes of settings for the way terrain is generated, and i also dont see why it wouldnt be possible to mix the random noise with a real heightmap of the earth/moon/mars etc, or any user created one. When i ...

RE: Pioneer: new GPL Frontier Elite 2 style game
<t>Large moons close to orbiting bodies will have lots of tectonic stress and volcanic activity. This can be seen in the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and offer an energy source independant of the sun (very handy when you that far out). Planets and bodies with high masses and densities close to each ...

RE: Pioneer: new GPL Frontier Elite 2 style game
<t>It would be nice to have translation thrusters as well, but thats just nitpicking:). Ive recently enjoyed flying to orbit, shutting off engines and seeing where the gravity takes me. The overpowered engines make orbits easy, and the hull temp makes re-entry realistic. I assume that with shield ...

RE: Pioneer: new GPL Frontier Elite 2 style game
<t>What kind of theme have you considered for the artwork? Were you looking to emulate Frontier as close as possible? Will you be using cabin and space station backgrounds? How about emblems and flags for the different factions, such as the military and the charitable orgs? The sound and art themes ...
