RE: Syfy announces : The Expanse.

I initially thought that the first season was pretty bad, but it improved significantly toward the end. There may be some hope for this, but in my opinion the ending of the first book was... just awful, so they have that hurdle to overcome.

RE: Kotaku Article on Development of Star Citizen

<t>I agree with Wormhole, a lot of people don't realize how much playable content is already out there for Star Citizen. Hello Games gave precious little information on No Man's Sky, Star Citizen is pretty much the opposite scenario, I've never seen anywhere near so much information about a game ...

RE: No Man's Sky

<t> Imagine should the likes of Bethesda or Activision who did NMS instead, no one will bitch it for even any minute. Not even Jim Sterling.I doubt that's true, in fact on Steam the reviews of (seemingly all) AAA games are becoming increasingly harsh. Perhaps not always deservedly so, but since that ...

RE: What is your current PC config?

<t>I finally set up dual boot with Ubuntu last weekend. It was a somewhat nerve-wracking experience because of some nVidia driver issues. Because the nvidia drivers involve kernel modules which are not recognized by secure boot, one must disable secure boot to use them. Of course, I would much ...

I don't like these types of shenanigans. Here's how it should work: If you don't like a game, get over it.

<t>(Insert usual disclaimer about how I don't know what the ultimate result of Star Citizen will be.) I really, REALLY wish that more of the gaming media seemed to understand how different Star Citizen is from other in-development games, and I don't just mean in scale (either technically or ...

RE: Everspace

<t>The overwhelmingly positive Steam reviews would seem to suggest that this is not a common problem. Indeed, I haven't experienced any either. I expect that the fact that this is a U4 game means that its rather difficult for the developers to guess what's causing some of the more unusual failures ...

RE: What is your current PC config?

<t> The second annoyance (which you've probably experienced) is the hassle of having to explicitly blacklist the nouveau drivers to make the proprietary one work every time you install a new OS, and also having to make sure that your driver is re-deployed every time you have a kernel update. Not ...

RE: What is your current PC config?

<t>The only downside is their stupid lack of open-source drivers for Linux, forcing you to rely on flaky Nouveau or else making you need to update the driver with every new kernel.I'm confused. Why won't you use the proprietary drivers? I'm generally in favor of open source everything by default as ...

<t>It's to be set 10 years before the 5 year mission. There is some good news about the personnel. One of the co-creators is Bryan Fuller who wrote episodes of Deep Space 9 and Voyager, as well as writing and producing episodes on a number of other well-liked TV series (you can take a look at his ...

RE: Gaming on Linux

<t>X11 supports borderless full screen windows. SteamOS runs all games like that (at least used to).Wow, that is quite surprising to me, but good to know. At the moment it looks like Canonical is only one who will use Mir, others will use Wayland.I thought Wayland was defunct, but a look at the ...

RE: Gaming on Linux

<t>I won't deny it, I'm a strong proponent of Linux, but this is the result of a lot of life experience using different operating systems (26 years of Windows/DOS, 10 years of Linux, 4 years of MacOS). First, let's get something out of the way. Emulation is problematic, and for nearly all intents ...

RE: No Man's Sky

<t>As much I dislike how Hello Games is marketing their game and communicate with the customers, I still look forward to play NMS. Publishers are pushing developers hard and unfortunately it means games may end up to market in very incomplete state.I don't have any privileged knowledge, but I ...

RE: Star Trek Discovery

<t>I've been following this, but have only just heard that it would be set 10 years before TOS. This place in the timeline makes me cringe. I really don't understand why writers are so fascinated with the idea that everything new should be awkwardly squeezed into an already well-established scenario ...

<t>Now, if only they could do some frightful kind of vivisection and splice this and Elite: Dangerous together, I'd be eternally happy :DI happen to think Elite Dangerous is WAY prettier than No Man's Sky, planets and all. There are some things that just can't be captured in a few screenshots. But ...

<t>I haven't gotten back on in a while, but I have to say, I am pretty impressed with their progress. The 3.0 demo they showed had very few bugs, especially when you consider how technically demanding it must be. The environments and ships look extraordinarily detailed. The planet looked ...

RE: No Man's Sky

<t>The patch that came out today was a significant improvement for me. Still not really getting above 90fps, but much of the hitching (framerate drops) is gone. One more thing I wanted to mention: I know it's popular to beat up on Elite Dangerous right now, but I really think they should have gotten ...

<t>Hi ExpandingMan,can you please tell which grafics card you play with? It's on a GTX1080 with a i7-5930k and 16GB of RAM. Yes, the Pascal cards are ridiculous, so I don't know how good an indicator this is for pre-Pascal. Keep in mind though that I am running it at 1440p, so I suspect a 970, 980 ...

RE: No Man's Sky

<t>I'm going to be a real asshole and quote myself from a year ago: And, by the way, yes, I care about No Man's Sky. I suspect that there will be a lot of vitriol over that game because people will have crazy expectations for it (and, for me, it looks like it will be lacking in the sorts of things I ...

RE: StarTrek Bridge Crew

<t>I'm a little confused by this. In what universe does a group of 4 friends all have 600$ or 800$ VR sets along with the $500 video cards needed to use them properly? I just bought a GTX 1080, and of course the priority was a 1440p 144Hz G-sync monitor, and after spending a boatload of cash on them ...
