Re: Shattered OriginsWe have posted a new article on ModDB (will appear soon), in which we posted a new 5 minute gameplay video, which shows the completion of an entire optional mission.
Preparing for Ambush There is a really (in)famous guild in outer space with their own history, called the Traders. They are humans, but they lived too far from civilization for too long. Because of that, they have developed an entirely different culture, and their own version of politeness. It is enough to talk to them just a few times, and the next time you arrive at their base, you already know you can't expect too much: they will benefit, and you will lose whatever they want you to. Therefore when you're taking optional missions from the Traders, you need to carefully plan for them. At the beginning of the optional mission 'Preparing for Ambush', you learn of a small Pirate force that is preparing to attack the Traders as soon as you leave the sector. The Pirates don't necessarily want to fight you, but the Traders have messed with them a couple of times, and they are willing to take revenge. You can either decide to do this mission, or not, both will have different results. In the video below, I decided to do it, and came up with a quick plan. Since the Pirates are still assembling their forces, and hiding in a nebulae cloud, the best thing to do is to strike as fast as possible. Because of the nebulae, it is difficult to find the Pirates, but they can't see us assembling either. I entered the hangar of my Cruiser, equipped my ships properly, and then put my ships to a strategically advantageous position. After I approached the Pirates, they immediately came out of their cover, and attacked me. Enjoy, and please watch in HD!
Re: Shattered OriginsNice video on going through a mission from start to finish.
To me it looks like you had to go back an launch each of your wingman's ships am I correct? Noticed your wingmen were leveling up during battle do they also share in any exp that is granted for mission completion? Let's start the Space Sim revolution and show everyone that Space Sims are alive and well. Tell a friend about Space Sim Central and discuss the old and the new of Space Sims.
Re: Shattered Origins
Thanks.
Yes, but it isn't necessary to do it this way, I just had a few ships in the hangar at the beginning of mission, 'cause I wanted to show off the equipments screen in the video
All pilots gain XP for the destruction they cause (actually for every single damage point they cause). Very few missions give additional XP as a reward, especially if the mission is fighting, since that already means lots of XP.
Re: Shattered OriginsLooks like lots of fun. Any idea on when a demo might be ready? Oh, and what are you planning as far as controller support?
Re: Shattered OriginsNice LordCrusare.
Few questions. Why the fish eye lens look?. I take it from the answer to D1 question about the wing men that you will be able to auto equipped all the wing men at once as well as individually. The nebulae cloud looks like its coming on in waves,is there any way to make it look more integrated with the rest of the game. "Ship computer calling bomb#20 you're out of bomb bay again"
Re: Shattered Origins
The demo will be done around mid-2010. Only keyboard and mouse is supported, controls are pretty easy though (WASD + Space + Mouse).
"Fish eye lens" means higher field of view, and it is only if you're going at max. speed. First, it's a nice effect, second, you can see more enemies on the screen at once (wider viewport).
There is no auto-equip, but since the game is paused while you're equipping, you can thoroughly plan what your ships will need to accomplish a mission.
Of course it's coming on in waves, they are particles. That is how it is meant to look
Re: Shattered OriginsAre you guys sure about the fish-eye lens look? I must say I find it pretty irritating. Perhaps it will need some getting used to.
Also, I wish you'd reconsider the lack of controller support. There are many of us who started gaming on consoles first and can't/won't play with keyboard/mouse.
Re: Shattered OriginsThis new screenshot is from the fifth area of the game, which is one of the toughest: you'll need to escort the Traders on their dangerous journey... The nature of the cargo is unknown to you, and the merchants act way too suspicious, but one thing is absolutely certain: the Pirates won't miss this opportunity to attack you...
Re: Shattered OriginsAwesome pic.
Its looks a very dark and dangerous bit space. "Ship computer calling bomb#20 you're out of bomb bay again"
Re: Shattered OriginsMan this is looking soooo sweeeeeet !! And the voice, sounds & music .... they're like the best ....... and I rarely say that
Re: Shattered OriginsAnother shot, displaying the final shape of the techtree:
Re: Shattered OriginsDo you have any vids of this feature in action?.
"Ship computer calling bomb#20 you're out of bomb bay again"
Re: Shattered OriginsWe have posted a new article at ModDB:
http://www.moddb.com/games/shattered-or ... -6-changes We have completely rewritten the control system of the game, and added new features for tactics. We'll soon post a video of all these new features.
Well, it would be a bit boring to watch a line become filled as a research is completed... I don't know exactly which part of this feature would be interesting to watch in a video.
Re: Shattered OriginsYou could speed the video up.
Its just that Iam not a big player of 4x4/rts games and I was just wondering how it all fitted in with the rest of the game. "Ship computer calling bomb#20 you're out of bomb bay again"
Re: Shattered Origins
I can assure you, there is nothing to worry about. This element of the game is more like an extra "colour" or a break from the actual thing, like the mini-games we included. These will not require you to have any skill at all, it's just fun. Of course you can fail at both researching and at the mini-games if you really want to (on hard difficulty settings you'll do so a few times), but otherwise, they are easy.
